Saw the sweet, off-beat road-movie ‘Wrist-Cutters: A Love Story’, set in a place where suicides go after they’ve ended their existence; where Zia, the slacker-protagonist frustratedly sees others perform little miracles while being unable to do one himself. He finally understands, it only happens when it doesn’t matter. It comes without effort.
When he dreams he and his friends are making an escape. The others fly to safety while he can’t get off the ground. His friend tells him, ‘We just do it, but you, you’re too obsessed with your own existence.’
The story was based on writings of Etgar Keret (the American film-makers had changed his ending) which has inspired me to make my next piece of writing something more weird and wonderful.
